Community
Recognised as an area of social deprivation, Thornhill is one of 39 areas around the country chosen in 1999 for the New Deal for Communities scheme. This is controlled by a board of 12 local residents and eight representatives of relevant agencies (police, primary healthcare, City Council, Chamber of Commerce etc) and is now known as 'Thornhill Plus You'.
At Kier we pride ourselves in our construction expertise but we also recognise the impact we have on the local community. As a local contractor we actively engage with the local businesses and in particular the education sector where we seek to assist in the training and development of tomorrow’s workforce.
Community engagement plays a vital role in the successful delivery of construction projects and in conjunction with the Eastpoint Centre we will be arranging school events to mark progression of the new building.
On previous projects, we have celebrated the traditional construction milestones of ground breaking and topping out, as well as burying tine capsules and other activities. Similar events and ceremonies will be held at the Eastpoint Centre.
We will also be keeping the community updated on our progress using local newsletters.
Upcoming events will be posted on this webpage so keep your eyes peeled!
