Kier Group operates through four main divisions, each focused on being the best in its class. Our Construction division comprises a UK-wide network of regional contracting business and major projects expertise in the UK and overseas. In Support Services, we provide a full life-cycle service for buildings in both public and private sectors including reactive and planned buildings maintenance, grounds maintenance and a host of other services. We have highly successful private house building and commercial property interests and an infrastructure investment arm specialising in the delivery of Private Finance Initiative projects.

Our Journey

Our origins date back to the early 1920s when a young civil engineer named Olaf Kier came to Britain from Denmark. Originally only intended as a short stay to learn the English language, Kier stayed in the UK and in 1928 set up a contracting firm named J Lotz and Kier with another expatriate.
Over the years the company has been involved in a number of acquisitions and partnerships, perhaps most notably the merger between Kier and W & C French in 1973. However, the Kier Group of today is the product of a management-led employee buyout from the Hanson Group in 1992. Following a successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange in 1996, the company has grown organically and by acquisition to become a leading force in the UK.
For decades the Kier name has been synonymous with the very best in building and civil engineering, giving Kier an excellent footing on which to build the business.
